The Triwizard Tournament is a magical contest held between the wizarding schools of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Durmstrang Institute, and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. The first Tournament was held in approximately 1294, with each of the three schools being represented by one Champion apiece. Selected Champions compete in three tasks designed to test magical ability, intelligence and courage, traditionally judged by the Headmasters or Headmistresses of the competing schools. Champions compete for the honour and glory of winning the Tournament, and the prize for the victor is the Triwizard Cup. However, the Tournament is extremely dangerous, and Champions have died while competing. Sometime after the 1792 Triwizard Tournament, it was discontinued when the death toll became too high. In 1994, the Tournament was revived with restrictions in place in an attempt to stop any potential deaths. The 1994 Triwizard Tournament is famous for the fact that it had four competing Champions, and the Tournament ended in tragedy with the death of Cedric Diggory, and the rebirth of Lord Voldemort.

• June 11, 2008: The Harry Potter Prequel story written by J.K. Rowling is available to view on-line at Waterstone's website.[1]

• May 29, 2008: J.K. Rowling has penned an 800 word prequel to the Harry Potter series for charity auction. The story will be set three years before the birth of Harry Potter, and will focus on the Marauders.

• May 24, 2008: Robert Knox, who was cast in the role of Marcus Belby in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film), was tragically killed when he was stabbed outside of a pub in Sidcup, England.[2][3]

• March 12, 2008: Warner Brothers have confirmed that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into two parts to do justice to the book. David Yates, director of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will return to direct. Part I will be released in November of 2010, and Part II in May of 2011.[4]

• February 2, 2008: Actress Scarlett Byrne is announced as playing Pansy Parkinson in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.[5]
