Unplottable

An unplottable location cannot be located on a map nor seen as it truly is, by Muggles or wizards, unless they know what to look for. One reason for a location to be unplottable, particularly a school, is to protect their secrets.

• Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry — hidden by the most powerful spells possible to protect its students and secrets from other wizarding schools or dark forces.
• Beauxbâtons Academy of Magic — another wizarding school hidden for the same reasons.
• The Durmstrang Institute — yet another wizarding school hidden for the same reasons.
• 12 Grimmauld Place — hidden by a Fidelius Charm to protect the House of Black and, later, the Order of the Phoenix.
• The Room of Requirement — regarded as unplottable because it does not appear on the Marauder's Map.
• The Isle of Drear — home of the dangerous Quintaped beasts and made unplottable because of them.
